Whoever believes in [Jesus], as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” John 7:38
The sickness of the heart is that it is unable to hear the one who truly loves him or her. In its worst state, the sick heart desires to believe delusions and illusions rather than wholeness and healing. It does not want to face the truth. Lies become its comfort zone. The sick heart is afraid of truth because its comfort is deceit. We have the whole Scripture to show us what a sick heart looks like: a heart that doubts, a sceptical heart, an unbelieving heart.
We can only really follow someone we trust, someone who can help us face the deceptions, illusions and delusions of pride, materialism and fame. We need someone who can help us face the truth of our lives enough to help us change. Here is Jesus offering you and I a heart from which rivers of living water flow.
Prayer:O Lord God, my dry and arid heart is thirsty for You my living water. Transform my heart and make it whole in You.
