Guard Yourself

Nehemiah 6:2-4, 9
Sanballat and Geshem sent me this message: “Come, let us meet together in one of the villages on a plain of Ono.” But they were scheming to harm me; so I sent messengers to them with this reply: “I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?” four times they sent me the same message, and each time I gave them the same answer …they were all trying to frighten us, thinking, “their hands will get too weak for the work, and it will not be completed.” But I prayed, “Now strengthen my hands.”
Our Lord Jesus said, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.” Building your intimacy with God does not easily come by. The devil will use every means, circumstance, and people like Sanballat and Geshem in an attempt to distract you and drag you off track.
Building your spiritual walls, or your intimacy, or your faith on the solid rock is like Nehemiah building the walls of Jerusalem. The enemies plotted, threatened, lied, accused, and did everything they could to stop or remove him from his work but they could not. He kept his eyes on God. Are you keeping your eyes on God? Are you guarding the most important thing in your life –your spiritual life?
Why fight? Because the devil does not want you to build your private victory. He knows once you fail in your intimacy with God you will become weak and not able to do the project God has put in your hands. But if you remain focused on God, you will overcome the pressure.
These are not the days to be unguarded. These are the days to watch and pray.
