The Fish and The Fishermen

For you were called to freedom, brothers [and sisters]. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.” Galatians 5:13-14

Our Lord Jesus used an excellent illustration with “fishers of men and women”. Even this metaphor needs clarification because in contrast to fishing, we do not lead these fishes to their death as regular fishermen do. We fish men and women to love them as brothers and sisters. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is that we love one another in Word and in deed. We share the story of Christ to live the life of Christ before the eyes of our brothers and sisters.

When Jesus invited his twelve disciples, He did not become their boss. He became their brother who ate, drank and slept with them.

Prayer:Our Father, make us to be fishers of men and women by growing our love for others. Help us love others as You have loved us.
